Pre-teens

Children in this age range tend to manifest grief as both a younger child would and the way an adolescent would. They may have very specific questions about the deceased person and what will happen to them, but they do understand the finality of death. To help them work through and resolve their grief, parents should:

-assure them they you understand their grief
-always be honest with them about death
-make sure to provide plenty of opportunity and time to talk with them
-provide routine encouragement to express themselves and their feelings
-do not expect them to act or grieve like an adult
